After applied the passport we can check the status of our passport application. For that we need 15 letter alphanumeric file number given by the respective passport seva kendra and also you should know the year of registration and city as per filled given passport application.

Check Passport Application Status Through SMS ( Shor Message Service)

The  Passport Seva kendra has launched new service to alert passport applicants for their status of the application with the help of  Private cellular operators. The Ministry of external affairs with private cellular operators provided us the SMS network to get the applicants on their present status of passport. The following procedures to get the status of SMS...

First step : Go to Create text message on your mobile phones.

Second step: Write " PPTAP File number " in the text box with out double quote.

File number Looks like :  

CBE        G035524         14 

City Code     File number               year

The file number you will get it from the passport office or any submission center.

Finaly send this SMS to 55352 

After you will get the successful reply from the PSK in the form of SMS

" RPO CBE G035524 : Passport has been dispatched on 05/06/2014 vide speed post No: S6574

If you want to get regular updates on your mobile phone for your passport application there is an optional value added service for applicants.
Premium SMS service is enabled for PSK under all RPOS across the country. From the time of apply passport first enroll the SMS services to receive the alerts and updates of our applications. This enrolment of SMS service is purely optional and enrolment charge is not a part of the passport fees. 
If you are not interested on this to enroll for SMS service you will get the standard communications from the PSK.
